Working Towards Production.

 I had another meeting with my group for our Introduction to Digital Media Project. Before we Shared the work we did over the past few days, we met with our new group member, Kotryna. We Introduced ourselves and gave a brief overview of how we have started the project already. Although 1 our group members was absent, we were able to progress well. We started with sharing our research work.

My Pros

- Culture Exposure /sharing

A  few months ago after the release of a now very popular Korean Netflix Show called "Squid Games"

There was a Surge of people researching and looking for ways to buy and make a Korean sweet snack, Dalgona, that showed in the show. This sweet was used as part of a game in the show, try to carve out the shape stamped in the sweet without breaking the honeycomb. After the shows success the internet was filled with videos of tutorial on how to make the sweet and also others trying to beat the game.

- New opportunities 

Also a few months ago, we saw the now popular song Isii Nafta (Give me Soul) Sang by Nimco Happy, go viral on various apps social media apps including, Tic Tock and Instagram. People make videos dancing to the song admitting they don't know what it means but its catchy and makes them feel good. With all this positivity, The Somali Artist was able to secure a deal with Universal Records.

My Cons

- Cultural appropriation

This ones one of the biggest problems seen with Cultural remix. Sometimes there is a lack of Recognition, with Celebrities being referred to as the 'starter' after they have been showcased wearing something from a different culture, tribe or background. This usually leads to a loss of meaning/ respect when people are misinformed and misuse traditions from other cultures.

After sharing our further research and  work from over the break, We seem to be at a good place with the project. We discussed potential shots to include and production techniques. We have a lot of material to work with and the fact that our topic is quite interesting to us also helps. We added more to what our project could be and redevised some of the work to accommodate our need member. After all was set and done we look at what needed to be done divided the work and set a date for our next meeting.
