Technological Evolution.
In an ideal world, the media would inform us of current day events without any exaggeration or lies. Unfortunately this is not the case with modern day media. Media producers for example, Newspaper Publishers, go head to head for one thing. Money. Although it is said money makes the world go round, this is quite detrimental when in regards to staying informed. How can we 'stay informed' when our 'informers' are too busy chasing the bag rather than the truth.
'History of Media Literacy' hosted by Jay Smooth on the CrashCourse YouTube channel, discuss' Yellow Journalism and its effects. Yellow Journalism as described by Jay, is when Newspaper Publishers fill their newspapers with misleading images and fake interviews, they publish more theories than facts, prioritising scandals, sports and crimes over information that is actually beneficial to know for every citizen. Yellow Journalism is flashy and quickly produced, they sell stories rather than facts in hopes to achieve a higher audience and revenue.

What Happens when we rely on media? Should Everyone have access to it?
When we rely on media, we are trusting these Publishers and Agencies to provide us with the truth. Not to much to ask for, right? Sometimes its hard to remember, these agencies and Publishing firms are all filled with people. Some not quite as honest as others and with a rise in competitors this may lead to some fabricated stories and articles. i think as Media consumers it is our responsibility to cross check with another source and when possible do our own research.
I also think everyone should be able to access media. Jay also discussed multiple reasons people use to stay away or filter media in their homes, one reason being Moral Defensiveness. Moral defensiveness as described by Jay, is where the effects of sex, violence and consumerism are the biggest concern or in other words people feel the media is 'Corrupting young Minds'. People usually use this stance against Hip Hop and Rap music. Blaming various forms of media like music or TV for behavioural issues is not a good enough excuse to keep people from staying connected and informed. Besides Media gives us information , not commands and to do lists. We shape ourselves based on what information we want to apply in our lives. The media does not 'make' you do anything. stopping people from access the media in turn stops them from learning, and if you stop leaning you stop growing and who wants that?
